Similar to a real Escape Room, the online variant is primarily about solving various puzzles alone or in a team and getting closer to a goal step by step. Originally, this goal was usually to escape from a locked room or building (which is where the name "Escape Room" comes from), but now the term also includes other game objectives, such as finding a treasure, solving a criminal case, and so on.

In our Online Escape Rooms, the gameplay takes place in the browser, so that several players can play from home either together on one device or distributed on different devices. Unlike on-site Escape Rooms, we do not have a fixed time limit, which is why a game can be paused and continued later.

The duration of the games depend on various factors. These include group size, age and experience of the players. The average game duration is somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 hours, but there is basically no time limit. Access to a game is only deactivated once it has been solved completely. The games also do not have to be finished in one sitting, but can be paused at any time and resumed later. The only requirement is that the game is continued on the same device and in the same browser, since the score is saved locally on the device.

In the games, there is a button that can be used to open the help function. There, depending on the puzzle, between one and three clues that build on each other can be uncovered. If it is still unclear how to solve a puzzle, the solution can also be displayed if necessary.

All games can be played alone or in a group. The maximum number of players is not limited, for an optimal gaming experience we recommend about 1-6 players. Players can come together in front of one screen or participate in the game separately (even from anywhere in the world) using multiple devices. The game state is not synchronized between devices, so that each participant has the complete game experience and does not miss any intermediate steps.

The games themselves do not offer any communication options. In order to communicate with remote players, we recommend using a voice/video chat application such as WhatsApp, Signal, Discord, Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, etc.

We recommend our games for ages 13 and up.
Children may need adult assistance to solve the puzzles. Some of the puzzles in the games can be a bit challenging, but if you get stuck, there is an intelligent help function that provides context-dependent multi-level hints and, if necessary, also the solution.

Our games do not contain any depictions of violence, horror elements, vulgar language or other adult content.

The games run directly in the web browser, no additional software needs to be installed and no other materials are required. However, pen and paper can sometimes be helpful for solving the puzzles. A modern browser that supports WebGL 2.0 is required. We recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Caution: Safari is unfortunately not supported!
The games can be played on either a PC or laptop with a mouse or a tablet with a touchscreen. Smartphones are not supported. We recommend a PC or laptop to play.

What is WebGL 2.0 / does my browser support WebGL 2.0?

There is no built-in function to play the games against each other. However, you can of course buy a game multiple times, start the games simultaneously, and see who finishes first.

Access codes are redeemable for one year from the time of purchase and entitle any number of players to play together once. An access code expires one hour after the first player has completed a game. All players already logged into the game can still complete it, but new players cannot login anymore.
